"Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps."
-William Shakespeare
Joss Whedon's film adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is absolutely enthralling. I watched this movie in the hip Cinema 21 on NW 21st and the best part is that student admission was only $8 instead of the typical $12 ticket at regular blockbuster movie theaters. Sure the screen may have been a teeny bit smaller and you can hear people's conversations that are sitting behind you but the seats are super comfy and I had no problem enjoying the movie. With this movie only using Shakespeare's original dialogue, it was hard to get into the Shakespearian language mindset at first and was a little confusing, but after a while those high school days of Shakespeare understanding came back. The visuals in this movie are amazing and the black and white film fits perfectly. The best part of this movie is that it was filmed in Joss Whedon's house! (He's got a really nice house). The movie was so funny that I could picture all-star comedy actors as the characters (Will Ferrell, Vince Vaugn, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and Tina Fey came to mind) but the actors in this movie did not disappoint at all. They captured the laugh out loud humor as well as the inevitable tragic drama of Shakespeare. If you're looking for a unique, beautiful comedic drama then this is the movie for you.
